FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Would you love some interior design help but figure you can’t afford it?

Meet Kismet Interiors, a new digital interior design concierge launched this year in Fairfield County that gives you a plan for your room and allows you to achieve it over time — and within your budget.

Founded by Bridgeport resident Yasmin Thornton and California resident Trisha Kasmin, who grew up in Milford, the business is run entirely in virtual space.

Projects start with an initial client meeting and ‘walkthrough’ of the room or rooms via Face Time, Skype or a similar vehicle.

Kasmin and Thornton, both trained designers, will then create a few furniture layouts and build out the space using furniture, decor, lighting and textiles presented to the client in a clickable list that can be fulfilled at their leisure.

Thornton and Kasmin crossed paths several times in life before formally meeting — as kismet would have it — at HB Home of Westport, Greenwich and Manhattan.

The pair clicked personally and professionally and decided to branch out on their own, creating a business designed to make interior design less exclusive and more accessible.

“Many clients were shopping online independently more and more often, which would affect the cohesive vision we spent a ton of time creating,” Thornton said. “The room would all of a sudden become disjointed by a random lamp they ordered.

“It became clear that clients wanted help from a designer and freedom to shop online on their own time.”

The duo decided to stop battling that random lamp and provide less structure to their projects.

So far, Kismet Interiors has built a client base across Fairfield County, as well as into New York City and even Florida. The designers can handle both commercial and residential spaces.

The a-la-carte approach means a typical room design costs about $500, which includes virtual meetings, furniture layout and the purchase list.
