“Stratford and the greater Bridgeport region fits the bill perfectly for Amazon’s new corporate headquarters, and we have numerous locations right here in Stratford that would be ideal,” said Hoydick, state representative for the 120th District. “We have the skilled labor force down here essential for Amazon’s operations, as well as access by highway, airport, train and medium harbor ports, and Bridgeport has a deep harbor port.”

Hoydick, the Republican candidate for mayor of Stratford, said she would seek a regional effort to try to land Amazon. “I would look to work with the leaders of our neighboring communities to make this happen – the benefit to all of our communities in terms of jobs and economic development would be tremendous.”
She also expressed displeasure that Gov. Dan Malloy has stepped forward to promote a Hartford location for the headquarters. “The Bridgeport region is far better suited for Amazon’s headquarters, and has made MarketWatch’s short list of eligible locations," Hoydick said. "To be blunt, the governor’s intervention in favor of Hartford is directly and intentionally undercutting our region.”
Seattle-based Amazon announced it is searching nationwide for a new location for a second corporate headquarters. They are seeking a city with 1 million residents in the region, business friendly environment and urban and suburban locations.
The region that gets the Amazon corporate headquarters could mean jobs for as many as 50,000 people with salaries averaging over $100,000 a year.
MarketWatch set out to find the cities that fit the requirements — and one city from Connecticut made the grade as a top candidate: Bridgeport.
