The bank branches will close their doors in January.

“Across the financial services industry branch traffic, and the number of transactions handled per branch, are declining and self-service transactions are increasing. First Niagara is no different,” Mark Rendulic, First Niagara executive vice president of consumer financial services, said in a statement. “A majority of customers prefer online, mobile and ATMs for simple transactions – and their use of these technologies is growing.”

The customers at the branches that are on the list will receive written notice 90 days in advance of the closing date. Most of the branches that are closing are within 3 miles of another First Niagara location.

Here are the local bank branches that are closing:

  • The Ridgefield branch at 108 Danbury Road. The closest branch is at 79 New Canaan Ave., Norwalk.
  • The Fairfield Woods branch at 2500 Black Rock Turnpike. The closest branch is at 1761 Post Road in Fairfield Center.
